The Queen Victoria School Old Boys Association (QVSOB) has received a generous sponsorship of $4,000 from Pacific Energy to support this year’s Druavesi golf tournament. The funding was officially presented by Amit Maharaj, the Chief Marketing Officer of Pacific Energy, to Alipate Ledua, the president of the QVSOB, along with Sai Tokalau, the tournament’s organizer.
This year marks the 31st edition of the Druavesi tournament, which is expected to attract between 80 to 200 participants from various locations across Fiji, including as far as Labasa. Unlike previous competitions, this year’s event is set to be more inclusive, allowing alumni from various schools nationwide to participate. The Fiji Golf Club will also field a team in the tournament.
Ledua expressed his appreciation for Pacific Energy’s ongoing support, highlighting their partnership that has spanned since 2011. He noted the growing interest in the tournament, evidenced by an increasing number of participants each year. Maharaj remarked on the unique aspect of involving younger golfers, specifically secondary school students, in last year’s and this year’s competitions, which he believes adds a distinct flair to the event.
Tournament organizer Tokalau is optimistic that this year’s event will encourage more students to engage and partake in the game of golf. Scheduled for Friday at the Fiji Golf Club in Vatuwaqa, Suva, the tournament promises to be an exciting and inclusive occasion for golf enthusiasts.
This event not only fosters a sense of community within the participants but also provides an opportunity for young golfers to gain exposure and experience in a competitive setting. The Druavesi tournament continues to evolve into a platform that champions both seasoned players and newcomers alike, which is a promising development for the future of golf in Fiji.
