Forty-five new law graduates from the University of the South Pacific were officially inducted into the Bar in a recent ceremony, marking an important step in their legal careers. Chief Justice Salesi Temo, presiding over the event at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva, congratulated the new lawyers on their achievements while emphasizing the immense responsibilities they now shoulder. Justice Temo urged them to continually learn and seek guidance from seasoned practitioners with invaluable courtroom experience and wisdom.

Among the new graduates, Kenneth Dauloloma reflected on the rigorous and transformative journey over the past five years that led to his admission to the Fiji High Court. He attributed his success to the encouraging memories of his late grandmother, Adi Laisani Moceisawana, and his late father, Theo Koot. Similarly, Nandita Natasha Naidu shared her accomplishments, expressing gratitude to Richard Naidu, who moved her petition, and her eagerness to embark on her legal career with Munro Leys’ litigation team led by Ronal Singh.

This ceremony is reminiscent of previous admissions where new lawyers echoed sentiments of gratitude towards their families and shared their personal hurdles. Graduates such as Ashna Dutt, Niumaia Mara, and Lanieta Gonewai Bilitaki have showcased perseverance in overcoming challenges, highlighting the powerful role of familial support in their professional journeys. These stories collectively underline a theme of resilience, with graduates overcoming financial, personal, and societal obstacles to reach their career milestones.

Justice Temo continuously emphasized the importance of maintaining integrity, professionalism, and ethical standards, urging the newcomers to uphold the dignity of the legal profession. He reminded them that their conduct directly influences public trust in the judiciary system. Through continuous learning and a steadfast commitment to justice, these graduates are poised to contribute positively to the legal community in Fiji.

These new lawyers not only reach personal goals but also serve as role models for future generations, illustrating how determination, coupled with support systems, can lead to achieving one’s career aspirations despite adversities. The narratives of these graduates shine a hopeful light on the future of law in Fiji, promising a legal community committed to integrity and public service.
