A commitment of $4.2 million has been made to Live & Learn Environmental Education Fiji through the Kiwa Initiative, aimed at implementing various projects in the region over the next three years. This announcement followed the launch of two major regional projects at the Novotel Hotel in Lami.

Subesh Prasad, the regional project manager for Live & Learn, expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with the Kiwa Initiative and emphasized the goal of making a substantial difference in communities vulnerable to climate change. Live & Learn, registered as a charitable trust in Fiji, operates across Asia and the Pacific to promote ethical and sustainable community practices.

The Kiwa Initiative, supported by multiple international entities including the European Union and Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, aims to bolster climate resilience in Pacific Island communities through nature-based solutions. The two latest projects, named Kiwa Empower and Kiwa Restore, are being implemented together with Conservation International.

Beyond Fiji, these initiatives will also extend to Tuvalu and the Solomon Islands. The project, which spans until 2027, is set to kick off shortly as operational plans are being finalized. This comprehensive endeavor will focus on restoring degraded lands, enhancing local water systems, reforestation, and promoting climate-smart agriculture to foster food security.

This funding for projects in Fiji is part of a broader investment of €6.6 million ($F15.7 million) by the Kiwa Initiative, aiming at enhancing climate adaptation efforts across the Pacific.

This initiative not only highlights the proactive steps being taken to address climate challenges but also illuminates a path of hope and resilience for vulnerable communities. By focusing on sustainable practices, these projects could lead to significant long-term benefits for both the environment and the people of the region.
