Uate Urovakavonu shared insights during a recent meeting in Bua, highlighting the challenges faced by local farmers in their quest to cultivate land effectively. He mentioned that despite being affected by various obstacles over the past year, they are optimistic about the future. The farmers are determined to prepare the land adequately this year, particularly in Nasarawaqa, where they have encountered a significant amount of rock.

Urovakavonu expressed some concerns in light of the recent challenges, noting that the local harvest had not been as productive as hoped. Despite being only 65 days old and still in the early growth stage, the farmers remain hopeful about the imminent outcomes. As of the last update, land preparation efforts were underway, although it had been slow due to the rocky terrain.

On November 16th, a small portion of their harvest was sold for $1 per kilogram. This price provides a glimmer of hope for the farmers as they received over $3,000 from the sale, marking a positive milestone despite their struggles with land cultivation.

Moreover, Urovakavonu is keen on sharing his experiences at a local Assemblies of God church in Labasa to spread awareness about their agricultural challenges and successes. His sentiment reinforces the belief that returning to the land is essential for sustaining their community’s wellbeing and prosperity.

In summary, while challenges abound in the agricultural sector, the determination and resilience of farmers like Urovakavonu pave the way for hopeful advancements in land cultivation. With continued effort, support, and community involvement, there is potential for a fruitful season ahead.
