$30 Million Investment to Transform Fiji’s Informal Settlements

Approximately $30 million will be allocated to improve informal settlements on Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, according to Housing Minister Maciu Nalumisa.

Minister Nalumisa noted that four informal settlements are currently under construction, while two more are set to begin construction within the current financial year.

The ongoing construction projects include Sakoca in Nasinu, which has 174 households; Tavela in Nadi, with 68 households; Field 4 in Lautoka, featuring 77 households; and Tore, also in Lautoka.

Additionally, construction is expected to start soon on Vuniika in Labasa, which has 101 households, and Wabuyaya in Ba, which includes 35 households.

The minister also mentioned that work is ongoing for 16 other informal settlements, with engineering plans slated for completion by the end of this year before moving into the construction phase.
