Approximately $30 million is set to be allocated for the improvement of informal settlements on Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, according to Housing Minister Maciu Nalumisa.
Mr. Nalumisa highlighted that four informal settlements are currently in the construction phase, with two more scheduled to begin construction within this financial year. The settlements under construction include Sakoca in Nasinu, which consists of 174 households; Tavela in Nadi, with 68 households; Field 4 in Lautoka, which has 77 households; and Tore in Lautoka as well.
Additionally, the two forthcoming projects are Vuniika in Labasa, which includes 101 households, and Wabuyaya in Ba, home to 35 households. The minister also noted that there are ongoing works for 16 other informal settlements, which are expected to complete their engineering plans by the end of this year before moving into the construction phase.
