The Labasa Football Academy is poised for an exciting $2 million development set to commence in March. This announcement was made by Mohammed Yusuf, chief executive of the Fiji Football Association (Fiji FA), in a recent interview. The upcoming development will feature a high-performance training pitch, with its inauguration planned during the Battle of the Giants tournament scheduled for August.

In addition to this project, the Fiji FA has been making noteworthy advancements in football infrastructure across the nation. Recent investments include the construction of beach soccer and futsal courts at the Labasa and Ba academies, which amounted to $500,000. The establishment of three futsal courts further illustrates Fiji FA’s commitment to expanding the sport.

Yusuf shared his pride in the progress achieved this year, emphasizing that the new facilities, along with the success of various tournaments, are expected to motivate aspiring players in future generations. He expressed optimism towards the association’s goals for 2025, confident that these initiatives will come to fruition.

The Fiji FA is also preparing to launch the Lomolomo Land Project, pending government approval for land rezoning to develop a $1.5 million high-performance center. This ambitious project is set to include two playing grounds, a stadium, and additional facilities for beach soccer and futsal.

In terms of competitive achievements, the Fiji FA has experienced success in organizing major local tournaments in 2024. The Digicel Pacific Fiji FACT, held at Subrail Park in Labasa in June, saw Lautoka retaining its title. This was followed by the Rooster Chicken/Scoops Ice Cream Battle of the Giants title claim by Lautoka at the HFC Bank Stadium in August. The FMF Inter-District Championship at Churchill Park ended with Labasa taking home the championship, while the Cecil’s National Club Championship crowned Labasa as the winner, showcasing their dominance in local football.

In summary, the upcoming $2 million development at the Labasa Football Academy represents a significant step forward for football in Fiji, promising to enhance training facilities, inspire young players, and support the growth of the sport across the nation. This progress reflects a positive trajectory for football in Fiji, encouraging dedication and talent in future athletes.
