Beyond the headline

A southeasterly wind flow will dominate the islands with a strong wind warning remaining in force for the land areas of Yasawa, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, and the coastal areas of Rakiraki and Udu Point. Moderate to fresh southeasterly winds are expected more widely, with locally stronger southeast winds up to 45 km/h developing in the warned areas. Seas will be rough in exposed coastal waters.

Cloudy periods with some showers are likely over Serua‑Namosi, Navua‑Suva‑Nausori, Tailevu‑Naitasiri‑Ra, southern Bua, Cakaudrove, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, and Kadavu and nearby smaller islands. Afternoon or evening thunderstorms are possible over Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, while most other districts can expect mainly fine weather apart from isolated afternoon or evening showers.

For major centres: Navua, Suva and Nausori will see cloudy periods with some showers and possible afternoon or evening thunderstorms, with temperatures around a minimum of 24°C and a maximum near 31°C (outlook for Tuesday: min 24°C, max 32°C). Nadi, Lautoka and Ba are expected to be mainly fine apart from isolated showers and possible thunderstorms (min 24°C, max 32°C, outlook Tuesday min 25°C, max 32°C). Sigatoka and the Coral Coast should be largely fine with only isolated afternoon or evening showers and possible thunderstorms (min 24–25°C, max 31–32°C).

Island groups and northern towns: Yasawa and Mamanuca will be mainly fine (min 24°C, max 32°C). Tavua and Rakiraki will see strong southeasterly winds developing around Rakiraki and otherwise fine weather with isolated showers (min 24°C, max 32°C). Taveuni, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, and Kadavu can expect strong southeasterly winds up to 45 km/h developing, with cloudy periods and some showers (generally min 24°C, max 31°C; outlook Tuesday min about 22°C, max 32°C). Labasa, Savusavu and Nabouwalu will be mainly fine apart from isolated showers and possible thunderstorms (temps generally mid‑20s to low‑30s). Rotuma remains under a trough of low pressure with occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms, moderate easterly winds and moderate seas; showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue into Tuesday.

Practical points: the strong wind warning and rough seas make small‑craft and coastal operations hazardous in the named areas—boaters and those planning coastal activities should take care and consider postponing journeys in exposed waters. Inland, afternoon thunderstorms on Viti Levu and Vanua Levu could bring heavy downpours, gusty winds and lightning in brief periods, so seek shelter and avoid lightning‑prone outdoor activities if storms develop. Overall, a breezy, southeasterly pattern with restricted sea conditions and periodic showers will persist through the short‑term outlook.
