The WOWS Kids Foundation successfully generated $28,000 during its Christmas Gala fundraising event held on Saturday. This substantial amount will enhance the foundation’s ongoing mission to provide essential resources and support for children fighting cancer in Fiji.

During her speech at the gala, Sina Kami, the founding director, expressed heartfelt gratitude to all contributors, emphasizing that every donation, no matter how big or small, plays a crucial role in supporting the foundation’s initiatives. Reflecting on the organization’s 17-year journey, she shared poignant insights into the challenges faced and the impact of community involvement. “We lost one girl and a daughter, but we gained so many,” Ms. Kami noted, highlighting the emotional weight of their work and the resilience of their mission.

Ms. Kami also acknowledged the collective effort behind the foundation’s success, praising the dedicated team of leaders and board members. “We are the eyes, hands, legs, and heart that beats for our children,” she declared, reinforcing the commitment to their cause.

One significant topic discussed at the event was the foundation’s plans to improve its resource center, which is currently too small for community events like family fun days. To remedy this, the foundation has reached out to the government for support in acquiring a larger plot of land for building a better resource center dedicated to the children of Fiji. “We have approached the government and the ministry, asking for land, not for us but to build a better resource center for the children of Fiji,” Ms. Kami stated.

This event not only showcased the community’s generosity but also highlighted the foundation’s critical work and future plans for enhancement. The hope is that with continued support, they can expand their resources and provide even greater assistance to children in need.

Overall, the evening was a celebration of compassion and community, reiterating the idea that when people come together for a common cause, they can create meaningful change.
