Ravinder Dhesi, the general manager of JW Marriott Gold Coast and a national of Fiji, recently celebrated 25 years with Marriott International. His career in hospitality began in 1999 at the finance department of ITT Sheraton Resort Denarau Fiji. Throughout his career, he has held positions at various Marriott properties across Noosa, Gold Coast, and Denarau, before returning to the Gold Coast.
Looking back on his career, Dhesi highlights key accomplishments such as the complete renovation and launch of the first JW Marriott brand in the region, earning various awards for the resort, including the titles of Global JW Marriott Brand General Manager of the Year and Marriott International APEC Luxury General Manager of the Year in 2022.
He attributes his success to hard work, mentorship, family support, and inspiration from leaders in the Fijian tourism sector. Dhesi believes in the importance of having role models, particularly those within the local community. He admired figures such as Fijian general manager Radike Qereqeretabua and influential local tourism leader Tony Whitton.
Dhesi emphasizes the need for a clear vision and personal career plan, which he believes are essential for driving success. He is inspired by the resilience and determination needed to seize opportunities, echoing Mr. Marriott’s sentiment that success is an ongoing journey.
