24-Year-Old Man Faces Court Over Military Firearm Theft

A 24-year-old man has been remanded in custody following allegations of stealing a firearm from the Republic of Fiji Military Forces. The court is scheduled to review his bail application today.

Sitiveni Tavakece appeared in Nadi Magistrate’s Court yesterday, facing two charges of theft, as well as a charge of possessing a firearm without a license. It is alleged that on September 25, he unlawfully appropriated a 9mm pistol valued at $1,500. Additionally, he is accused of stealing three souvenir medals from the RFMF.

Sources indicate that the state plans to file a further charge against him today. The case has been adjourned until 9:30 am for mention, and bail has been denied.
