A moist easterly wind flow prevails over Fiji, with a weak trough of low pressure expected to bring additional cloud and showers to the Northern Division from tomorrow. Overall, the outlook through to midnight tomorrow is for cloudy periods and showers in eastern and northern coastal areas, while most other locations will be fine apart from afternoon or evening showers. Afternoon thunderstorms with heavy falls are expected across Viti Levu and Vanua Levu.
Cloudy periods with some showers are likely for Serua–Namosi, Navua–Suva–Nausori, Tailevu–Naitasiri–Ra–Rakiraki, southern Bua, eastern Macuata, Cakaudrove, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands. Showers in the Northern Division are expected to ease and become occasional from tomorrow. Elsewhere conditions will generally be fine until the typical late-afternoon or evening showers and storms develop.
Afternoon thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall over parts of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu; localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding of low-lying and flood-prone areas. Residents in susceptible locations should take care during heavy downpours and avoid driving through flooded roads. The bulletin highlights that these heavy afternoon storms are a recurring feature in the forecast through tomorrow and into Wednesday.
Winds will remain moderate easterlies with moderate seas for most areas. Rotuma will see a moist easterly flow with cloudy periods, some showers and possible isolated thunderstorms, with moderate to fresh easterly winds and moderate to rough seas. Mariners and those planning coastal activities should take note of the sea conditions for their area.
For major centres: Navua, Suva and Nausori can expect cloudy periods with some showers and afternoon thunderstorms with heavy falls (today’s maximum around 32°C; tomorrow’s low about 25°C and high near 32°C).
