21-Year-Old Faces Charges in M-PAiSA Deception Case

The Fiji Police M-PAiSA Task Force has charged a 21-year-old man in a case involving Obtaining Financial Advantage by Deception through a mobile money transfer app.

The man is accused of dishonestly obtaining $337 from a victim on May 30, 2024.

Allegedly, the suspect hacked into a Viber account belonging to the victim’s friend and requested money for urgent needs.

The victim then received another request for an additional $400.

Becoming suspicious of the new request, she contacted her friend, who confirmed that her Viber account had been hacked and that she had not asked for money.

The accused has been charged with one count of Obtaining Financial Advantage by Deception and is scheduled to appear at the Labasa Magistrates Court today.
