The pools for the 2025 McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast 7s have been confirmed, setting the stage for an exciting three days of high-level rugby at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka from January 16 to 18. This tournament will showcase a mix of elite Fijian teams and accomplished international squads, promising a fiercely competitive atmosphere in both the men’s and youth divisions.
In the youth category, the Dominion Brothers, the reigning champions, will kick off their title defense in Pool YA, where they will compete against Tuva Youth, Pacific Nomads, and Nauru Rugby. Other youth pools include Bilo Bar Aflame Youth, Tubarua, McDonald’s Saunaka, and Sunnybank Dragons in Pool YB; U18 Japan, Village Boys, Star Hospitality Pacific Mana, and Navala Rugby Youth in Pool YC; and Southland Broncos, Sacramento Kaji, Sausauvou Taveuni, and Noi Nabua Stallions in Pool YD.
On the men’s side, the competition remains equally fierce. The Fiji 7s, last year’s champions, will face challenging opponents in Pool MA, including NZ Sevens 2, Tuva Rugby, and Brothers. Pool MB comprises NZ Sevens 1, Drua 7s, Seattle Barbarians, and Colo West, while Pool MC includes BLK Lavidi, Manu Samoa 7s, Bula Bay 7s, and Ratu Filise. Lastly, Pool MD features Aussie Select 7s, McDonald’s Mike Friday Select 7s, Devo Babas, and Takita Brothers 7s.
Chairman Jay Whyte expressed enthusiasm for the strong lineup, noting, “The pools are out for 2025, and it’s becoming clear that just progressing from the pools will be a formidable challenge. There are no easy pools this year, indicating a robust representation of international teams merged with the highest caliber of Fijian clubs, making this the strongest tournament on record.”
This year’s competition highlights the dedication and growth of rugby in Fiji, as well as the increasing international interest in the event. Rugby enthusiasts can look forward to an exhilarating display of talent and sportsmanship in January.
A positive takeaway from this year’s tournament is the opportunity for local players to showcase their skills against some of the best in the world, potentially bringing greater recognition and support for rugby in Fiji and inspiring the next generation of athletes.
