Churchill Park in Lautoka has been selected as the venue for the 2025 FMF Inter-District Championship (IDC), replacing Govind Park in Ba. The Fiji Football Association announced this decision due to the unavailability of floodlights for night matches at the Ba Town Council, which had initially promised to arrange temporary lighting for the tournament. The Fiji FA stated that the move was necessary to ensure the smooth operation of the championship.
Fiji FA President Rajesh Patel emphasized the importance of holding the tournament under suitable lighting conditions, and acknowledged that while Ba was an exciting potential host, they must prioritize logistical needs. The IDC will take place from October 7-12, 2025.
Previously, the tournament was poised to return to Ba after a decade, with significant excitement surrounding the newly renovated Govind Park. However, given the current circumstances, ensuring that all logistical arrangements are up to standard remains a top priority. The reliable infrastructure at Churchill Park is expected to provide a better experience for both fans and players.
This change may also highlight opportunities for future events in Ba once they are able to facilitate the necessary amenities, signaling hope for future football tournaments in the area. As local enthusiasm for the sport continues to grow, there is every reason to anticipate that Ba will be ready for major football events in the near future, bolstered by community support and engagement.
