Nasinu and Tailevu Naitasiri football teams will not participate in the 2024 Rooster Chicken/Scoops Ice Cream Battle of the Giants (BOG) tournament.
Nasinu’s 1-0 victory over Ba in round 12 of the DFPL moved them to eighth place on the ladder, but they have been excluded due to hosting grounds. Consequently, Suva, which is currently in ninth place on the ladder, will take Nasinu’s spot as they hold the hosting rights.
Tailevu Naitasiri has been disqualified as they are at the bottom of the DFPL standings.
The top eight teams that will participate in the tournament include Rewa, Labasa, Lautoka, Ba, Nadi, Navua, Nadroga, and Suva.
The pool draws for the BOG tournament are scheduled for tomorrow. Group matches will occur from July 26-28, while knockout stages are planned for a week later at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
Labasa won the tournament last year by defeating Navua 2-1 after extra time in the final at the HFC Bank Stadium, with the pool matches being played in Nadi a week earlier.
Ba has the best record in the tournament, winning 17 out of the 24 finals they have played in.
