Applications for the $200 back-to-school assistance program for students are currently being processed, according to Finance Minister Professor Biman Prasad. He confirmed that the majority of applications have been handled effectively.

To ensure maximum accessibility, the government extended the application deadline, encouraging as many eligible school children to participate as possible. The eligibility criteria require a household income of less than $50,000.

Professor Prasad highlighted that, including this year, the Coalition Government has supported around 200,000 students annually, amounting to a significant investment of $130 million. He noted that more than 200,000 students received assistance in both 2023 and early 2024, and this trend is expected to continue in early 2025.

He emphasized the importance of timely assistance, stating that heading back to school after the holiday season often necessitates new books, bags, shoes, and other essential items for children. This program serves as a crucial support system for parents, helping them ensure their kids are well-equipped and prepared for school.

In summary, this initiative not only alleviates financial strain on families but also fosters educational equity by ensuring that all students have access to the necessary tools for success. The ongoing commitment to supporting students reflects a hopeful outlook towards improving educational opportunities for future generations.
