As of 3 PM today, a total of 151 individuals are seeking refuge at four designated evacuation centers in Nadi, according to Divisional Commissioner West Apolosi Lewaqai. Residents in the flooded regions of Nadi are strongly advised to proceed to the nearest evacuation center for their safety.

The active evacuation centers include Saint Andrews Primary School, Saioni Church, Saint Mary’s Primary School, and the Vou dance group office. Commissioner Lewaqai emphasized the importance of planning movements ahead of time and advised against unnecessary travel during this critical period.

He further cautioned against the dangers of traversing flooded bridges, noting an incident where a vehicle was swept away. He urged drivers to assess travel conditions carefully, particularly when heading towards inundated areas, and to reconsider their plans unless absolutely certain it is safe to travel.

In light of these challenges, it is crucial for the community to remain vigilant and support one another. Additionally, the effective management of these evacuation centers showcases the resilience and readiness of emergency services in response to natural disasters.

This situation highlights the importance of community preparedness and the collective effort to ensure safety during emergencies. By staying informed and cautious, residents can help protect themselves and others in the face of these adverse conditions.
