150 Years of Service: Celebrating the Legacy of Fiji Police

The journey from Nasova, Levuka to Suva has spanned 150 years, and today we pay tribute to those who paved the way for us. Minister for Home Affairs Pio Tikoduadua made this remark while presiding over the 150th anniversary celebration of the Fiji Police Force at the Nasova Police ground in Suva on Friday.

The event featured a parade of officers from the Fiji Police Force and the Fiji Corrections Service, which took place from the Totogo Police Station to the academy. Mr. Tikoduadua remarked on the impressive 150 years of community service provided by the Fiji Police Force.

“The men and women of the Fiji Police Force have carried out their duties under challenging conditions, often with little recognition, and yet with unwavering dedication to the safety of our communities and upholding the law,” Mr. Tikoduadua stated.

He also highlighted the significance of the Fiji Corrections Service’s participation, acknowledging their service. “Today, we honor those who have served in both institutions for their dedication, love, and commitment to Fiji in the past. Without their contributions, we would not be where we are today.”

The establishment of the Fiji Police Force dates back to October 10, 1874, when the Aide De Camp (ADC) to the Governor was named Superintendent of Police, and the first officers were appointed by notice in the Royal Gazette.
