A trough of low pressure, supported by a moist northeast wind flow, is affecting Fiji and will continue to influence the weather through later today and into the weekend. Widespread cloud, showers and frequent afternoon or evening thunderstorms are expected, with periods of heavy rain most likely across parts of Viti Levu, Vanua Levu, Taveuni and the Lau, Lomaiviti and Kadavu groups.

Today, cloudy periods with some showers are forecast for Navua‑Suva‑Nausori, Tailevu‑Naitasiri‑Ra, Rakiraki‑Tavua‑Ba, Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, Lau, Lomaiviti, Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, and Kadavu. Elsewhere conditions will be partly cloudy with afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms, and localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding in low‑lying and flood‑prone areas. Coastal communities and those in known flood zones should be prepared for sudden runoff during heavy downpours.

Tomorrow and into Sunday the pattern remains similar. Cloudy periods with some showers are expected over Serua‑Namosi, Navua‑Suva‑Nausori, Tailevu‑Naitasiri‑Ra, eastern Macuata, Cakaudrove, southern Bua, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, Lau, Lomaiviti and Kadavu. Most other areas should be mainly fine apart from the usual afternoon or evening showers, but afternoon and evening thunderstorms with heavy falls are likely again over Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. Temperatures will be warm: Navua/Suva/Nausori around 25–32°C, Nadi/Lautoka/Ba about 24–33°C, Sigatoka/Coral Coast near 24–32°C, and many island groups generally between 25–31°C.

Winds will be moderate, shifting from northeasterly today to easterly on Saturday and Sunday. Seas are expected to be moderate around most islands; however, conditions may become less favourable near heavy showers and thunderstorms. Small craft operators and swimmers should take care in confined waters and avoid exposed areas during squalls or gusty conditions.

Rotuma remains under the influence of the trough with cloudy periods, showers and isolated thunderstorms capable of heavy falls. Winds there will be moderate to fresh easterlies with seas moderate to rough. An occasional shower or isolated thunderstorm with heavy rain is possible into Sunday, with temperatures around 25–31°C.
