$114 Million Trade Boost: A Game Changer for Pacific Islands!

Pacific Trade Invest (PTI) Australia, an agency of the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS), reported facilitating trade deals valued at A$76.5 million (F$114.32 million) across both export and tourism sectors, alongside achieving a record A$16.3 million (F$24.36 million) in investment deals.

In its recently released 2023 annual report, PTI highlighted its significant accomplishments. The agency stated that its trade team collaborates with businesses throughout the Blue Pacific to foster growth opportunities within the Australian market. This includes making introductions to buyers, importers, and providing access to essential digital tools to connect with consumers.

PTI’s investment team also plays a crucial role, linking international investors to investment-ready opportunities across the Pacific and contributing to business and employment development. In 2023, the agency supported 725 businesses in the Pacific, of which 357 were women-led, facilitated 203 export deals, and offered 850 services.

Jeremy Grennell, PTI Australia’s officer in charge, remarked on the organization’s progress in recent years, emphasizing the strengthening of operational models and ongoing efforts to reach more clients and foster valuable connections within the Australian market.

Grennell noted that their focus on global digital solutions last year significantly influenced their outcomes. The agency improved its digital infrastructure and promoted online learning, enhancing sales processes for its clients.

Onorina Fugawai, PTI Australia’s tourism manager, stressed the importance of adaptability for Pacific tourism operators amid rapidly changing global contexts and online offerings. She highlighted that 2022 was pivotal for the tourism industry, as it began recovering from the prolonged impacts of the pandemic, with many operators embracing digital transformations to streamline guest bookings and engage broader audiences.

PTI Australia’s digital tourism program has been instrumental in supporting these transitions, equipping operators with tools and knowledge to effectively establish a secure online presence.

Established in 1979, PTI Australia is funded by the Australian Government and aims to facilitate trade and investment initiatives in the Pacific Islands.
