Three hotels in Suva successfully raised approximately $10,000 during the 2024 Pinktober campaign, aimed at supporting cancer awareness and care in Fiji. The Fiji National Provident Fund-owned Intercontinental Fiji Golf Resort and Spa, Grand Pacific Hotel, and Holiday Inn collaborated to gather the funds, which will be distributed among the Fiji Cancer Society, WOWS Kids Fiji, and Cure Kids Fiji.
Throughout October, these hotels organized a series of engaging fundraising events that merged hospitality with a noble cause. Guests were invited to partake in a variety of themed activities, such as enjoying pink-themed cocktails, participating in elegant high teas, indulging in spa treatments, and enjoying the ‘Cup of Kindness’ coffee initiative. According to a media release from Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG), 10 percent of all proceeds from these events were earmarked for cancer care and awareness initiatives within Fiji.
Lachlan Walker, the portfolio general manager of IHG, expressed heartfelt gratitude to all those who supported the Pinktober initiative. He acknowledged the unwavering generosity of guests, colleagues, and the broader community, emphasizing how their collective efforts made a substantial difference for those impacted by cancer in Fiji. Walker described the campaign as a profound demonstration of what can be achieved through unity, compassion, and shared goals.
The allocation of funds reflects a commitment to support local cancer initiatives, with half of the proceeds directed to the Fiji Cancer Society, and $2,500 each designated for WOWS Kids Fiji and Cure Kids Fiji.
This collaborative effort not only raised funds but also fostered community spirit and awareness about cancer care in Fiji, reminding us all of the positive impact that can be made when individuals come together for a common cause.
