Jiya Jaanvi Prasad, a determined 20-year-old, is advocating for awareness and compassion in the battle against addiction. Sponsored by Rainbow Cool Tech, she is one of seven contestants participating in the Vodafone Fiji Coral Coast Carnival in Sigatoka, where they are united in their mission to combat drug addiction.
“At the Coral Coast Carnival, we come together to fight drug addiction,” Ms. Prasad stated passionately. “This issue affects many people, but we are rallying for hope, recovery, and support. This is my first experience in a pageant.”
Prasad emphasizes the importance of raising awareness and compassion, believing that together, they can help liberate individuals from the grips of addiction and pave the way for a brighter, healthier future. She is grateful for the unwavering support of her parents, Abhinesh and Ranjileen Prasad, who both work in the tourism industry.
Hailing from Maro, Nadroga, Jiya previously attended Tuva Primary School and Nadroga Arya College. Currently, she is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts and a Graduate Certificate in Education at the University of the South Pacific, with the ambition of becoming a lawyer.
The Coral Coast Carnival is marking its return after a four-year hiatus, and the crowning ceremony for the contestants is set for this Saturday, adding excitement to this year’s event.
This initiative is not just about a pageant; it showcases a community coming together to address significant social issues. It symbolizes hope and collective effort towards recovery, proving that even in challenging times, there is a commitment to fostering positive change.
As Jiya and her fellow contestants shine a light on addiction, they remind us all that through unity and compassion, lasting differences can be made in the lives of many.
