A recent four-day festival in Savusavu successfully raised $48,000 to support youth development initiatives. The Cakaudrove Multi-Ethnic Youth and Sports Festival was jointly organized by the Cakaudrove Youth Council and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Aubrey Whippy, the festival’s committee coordinator, highlighted the significant contribution made by the 14 queen contestants, who collectively raised $30,716.15. He expressed gratitude to Jese Saukuru, the Minister for Youth and Sports, and his team, including divisional North manager Walter Matalau, for their vital support and trust in the council’s ability to host its inaugural carnival.
During the event at Narain Park, Temalesi Tuiwalese, representing Vaturova, was crowned Miss Cakaudrove Youth. Mr. Whippy noted that discussions would be held on how to allocate the funds effectively for investments, development projects in Cakaudrove, and operational expenses.
Looking ahead, the organizers plan to expand next year’s carnival, with aspirations to include representatives from all 15 districts and enhance participation from diverse ethnic groups, including Indo-Fijian, Rabi, and Kioa communities.
Additionally, Rosi Toroca was named Miss Charity after raising $7,612 for her district of Koroalau.
This positive event fosters community spirit and paves the way for future initiatives that can further empower the youth in the region. The enthusiasm and dedication displayed by the participants and organizers reflect a promising future for the Cakaudrove community.
