Youngest 14-Year-Old Hospitalized for Drug-Related Mental Issues

A 14-year-old has become the youngest individual referred to Saint Giles Hospital due to mental health issues stemming from drug abuse. This information was disclosed by St Giles Hospital’s medical superintendent, Dr. Balram Pandit, and highlighted by Divisional Crime Prevention North coordinator, Inspector Vidya Pillay.

Inspector Pillay emphasized that the epidemic of drug-induced mental health issues spares no age group. He pointed out that while these statistics reflect efforts in policing, they should not define the societal identity.

Inspector Pillay also revealed a concerning trend involving juveniles, noting that 17 individuals aged 17 and below faced drug-related charges in the first five months of this year. These juveniles were apprehended and presented before a court of law.
