Eight-year-old tennis player Sairusi Naivalelevu Mailtorok celebrated a special victory by dedicating his win in the under-12 boy’s singles final to his late mother.
Sairusi demonstrated his extraordinary talent and determination with a remarkable 8-2 triumph over Nacanieli Dokaninaloma at the Vodafone Suva Tennis Open Championship finals held at Victoria Courts yesterday.
This victory is particularly meaningful for Sairusi, who wishes to celebrate with his father while paying tribute to his mother, whom he feels is watching over him from above.
Beginning his journey in tennis at the age of four, Sairusi attributes his love for the sport to his father, who has been his coach and inspiration.
“I started playing tennis when I was four years old. My dad always teaches me how to play, and getting into the sport makes me feel really good,” Sairusi shared. “This is my first win, so it is special to me. I hope my mom was here to see me win.”
As he revels in this milestone achievement, Sairusi aspires to become a professional tennis player, hoping to represent his country and family on an international level.
Despite competing against a 12-year-old in the finals, Sairusi’s skill and determination led him to achieve this significant victory.
In an expression of gratitude, he dedicates his win to his father, mother, and everyone who has supported him throughout his journey.
