The New Vision 21 volleyball team from Vatuwaqa is gearing up for a competitive season in this year’s Suva Volleyball Association club competition. Formed earlier this year, the team is dedicated to empowering local youths and has been making notable strides under the leadership of head coach Matayasi Suka.
Suka has noted that while many players are newcomers to the sport, their enthusiasm and commitment stand out. In a testament to their potential, the team has secured two victories by default due to the no-shows of their opponents. However, this has not dampened their spirit; the players are clearly passionate about their involvement in volleyball.
The motivation behind establishing this team, according to Suka, is to create a positive environment for young people in the community. He wishes to intervene in their lives in a manner that helps them avoid issues like drug abuse, steering them towards more promising pathways.
“So far, the team has done well; most of these boys are playing volleyball for the first time, and their talent is quite encouraging,” Suka commented. He added that while the competition is tough, with formidable teams to face, the focus remains on steady improvement and skill development.
Suka also expressed appreciation to the Suva Volleyball Association for providing the team with the platform to compete and recognizing their efforts in nurturing the players both mentally and physically.
This team serves as a beacon of hope within the community, illustrating how sports can play a pivotal role in personal development and social upliftment. With a commitment to growth and resilience, the New Vision 21 volleyball team is well-positioned to make a significant impact this season and inspire others in their pursuit of better futures.
