Ethan John, an enthusiastic swimmer from the Seals Swimming Club, has quickly gained recognition at the Fiji Swimming Age National competition held at the Damodar Aquatic Centre in Laucala Bay on Sunday.
In just three years, the young athlete has achieved impressive results, including a second-place finish in two events and a third-place finish in the 50m butterfly race.
Although Ethan initially wished to pursue rugby, his mother deemed it too dangerous for him, leading him to embrace swimming as a safer alternative. “My mom never allowed me to play rugby, but she always encouraged me to swim,” Ethan said.
Currently a student at Central High School, he finds it challenging to balance his academic responsibilities with training. “Since I am in school, I have a hard time managing both,” he explained.
In moments of difficulty, Ethan turns to his faith for support. “Whenever I’m struggling, I ask the Lord for guidance,” he noted.
Ethan’s passion for swimming goes beyond personal achievement; he aims to make his family proud and inspire others. “For those considering swimming, remember it’s mind over matter. If you set your mind to it, you can achieve anything,” he encouraged.
