Hannah Wise, a 14-year-old swimmer, is making waves after her impressive performance at the Fiji Swimming Age Group Nationals. Competing for the Great White Sharks team from Lautoka, this Year 9 student from Tilak High School shone brightly, earning two gold medals.
Wise described the competition as both challenging and rewarding, particularly noting the speed of her rivals. “The competition has been great; swimming against experienced swimmers is tough, but I’m thankful for my achievements,” she commented.
Despite the intense competition, Wise remained committed to her goals. She participated in six events and celebrated winning gold medals for her team on the opening day. “My aim is to secure all gold medals, if not, I just want to improve my times, that was my goal going into the competition,” she stated.
Having started swimming at a young age, Wise attributes her passion for the sport to her grandmother, who encouraged her and her siblings to take up swimming after retiring from her job. “I have been swimming for six years now, and my motivation is my grandmother,” she said.
For Wise, swimming brings her both peace and joy, and she has a deep love for the sport. However, she also faces the challenge of managing her schoolwork alongside her rigorous training schedule, which can often leave her feeling fatigued. Despite this, Wise is determined to succeed in both academics and athletics.
She expressed her appreciation for her coach and family, who have provided unwavering support throughout her swimming journey.
