Young Students Discover the World of Newspapers at The Fiji Times

Young students from St. Marcellin Primary School had the opportunity to learn about the world of journalism during their visit to The Fiji Times. On their excursion, which is part of a three-day trip around Suva and Sigatoka, the Year 3 students delighted the staff with songs.

Their itinerary, organized by their teacher, included visits to The Fiji Times and My Suva Picnic Park, a movie screening at Damodar Cinemas, and a tour of the National Fire Authority. On Thursday, the students plan to explore the Sigatoka Forest Park and Sand Dunes, allowing them to connect with nature and experience its wildlife.

Teacher Payal Kumar accompanied a group of 39 students and some mothers on this enlightening trip. She noted that the visit was a significant learning experience for both the children and the adults. “Many of our young children are focused on mobile phones and lack exposure to The Fiji Times,” she said. The group plans to reflect on their experiences during a break at the park, discussing what they learned about the newspaper and its operations. The students had the chance to tour the newspaper office and the printing press hall.
