Thirteen-year-old Jone Seru from Nukuloa Sanatan Dharam School won the under-14 boys’ 1500m final at the Ba Primary School athletics competition, clocking in an impressive time of 5 minutes and 19 seconds at Churchill Park yesterday.
His consistent training, which includes daily 6km road runs in the morning and afternoon, paid off as he took control of the race from the very beginning and maintained his lead through three and a half laps to finish strong.
Seru, who is originally from Naitasiri, expressed his happiness and gratitude after claiming the gold medal. “I want to thank God for this gold medal. I do road runs every morning and afternoon, and I’m happy that it has paid off,” he stated.
His commitment to training was clear as he confidently set the pace early in the race, ultimately leading to his victorious outcome.
