Young Leaders Emerge: Shreya and Netani Step Up at Natabua High School

Young Leaders Ignite Change at Natabua High School

Shreya Shail and Netani Solo Kepa have officially assumed their roles as head girl and head boy, respectively, at Natabua High School in Lautoka, marking an important milestone in their final year of education. The duo was inducted last Friday, where they articulated their visions for effective leadership.

Seventeen-year-old Shreya emphasized that her understanding of leadership is grounded in nurturing her peers and promoting teamwork. “To me, leadership means taking care of those in my charge through integrity, responsibility, and most importantly, teamwork,” she remarked. Shreya is committed to helping Natabua High achieve its fullest potential, with a focus on academic excellence and maintaining discipline both at home and school. Inspired by a long-standing fascination with the human brain, she aspires to become a neurologist.

On the other hand, Netani underscores the importance of collaboration in leadership rather than a traditional hierarchy. He expressed his gratitude for being elected head boy, stating, “It is an honour to be chosen as head boy. To me, this role means standing alongside others, guiding and inspiring them.” He is eager to elevate the school’s standards this year and plans to further his education at the University of the South Pacific, aspiring to be a marine biologist.

Both Shreya and Netani take inspiration from their families—Shreya from her parents’ careers in engineering and insurance, and Netani from the supportive guidance of his family. Their journeys reflect a broader narrative among youth leaders in Fiji who are committed to fostering positive change within their communities.

The aspirations of these students resonate with the experiences of other young leaders across Fiji, such as Gideon Tegumaila from Saint Thomas High School and Vasitia Waqaninavatu from Waiqele Primary School. Their ambitions highlight not only personal goals but also a shared commitment among young leaders to uplift their schools and neighborhoods.

As Shreya and Netani embark on their leadership paths, they symbolize hope for a more promising future. Their determination and community-oriented vision illustrate that with support and commitment, youth can initiate transformative changes within educational settings.
