The Digicel Fiji Young Kulas are utilizing the two days leading up to their FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup matches in Colombia to prepare thoroughly. The focus is on getting accustomed to playing under floodlights, a situation they are not familiar with in Fiji, as well as adjusting to their new environment.
Upon their arrival in Colombia, the team received a warm welcome, complete with vibrant music and cultural displays that highlighted the local heritage. A welcoming lunch allowed the players to acclimate, and they are now settled in at their hotel for the duration of their stay.
Head coach Angeline Chua underscored the necessity of quickly adapting to local conditions and the high level of competition they will encounter. “We will be playing at night under floodlights, which is something we’re not used to in Fiji, so it’s important to train at night,” Chua remarked. She further noted, “The team will need to adapt swiftly to the local environment and the rigorous competition we’re about to face. The forthcoming match against Brazil will be a significant test of our preparation, resilience, and determination.”
Defender Preeya Singh, who currently resides in the United States, conveyed her enthusiasm regarding the warm welcome in Medellín, as well as her eagerness to explore Colombia’s culture and people.
With just two days remaining until their first match, the team is prioritizing training and recovery to ensure they are fully prepared to take on Brazil.
