The Digicel Fiji Young Kulas faced another challenging defeat in their second match at the FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia, losing 9-0 to a strong Canadian team. Similar to their opening match against Brazil, the Young Kulas had difficulty defending against their opponents, as Canada netted seven goals in the first half. Noteworthy performances included a hat-trick by Anabelle Chuckwu, along with two goals each from captain Olivia Smith and Kayla Brigs.
Despite the heavy losses, defender Talei Moodie remains hopeful about the team’s development through these experiences. “As newcomers to this level of competition, we expected to face tough opposition and encounter new challenges,” Moodie stated. “This experience is valuable for us to learn and improve, and I believe it will only motivate us to get better.”
Looking forward to their final pool match against France, Moodie emphasized the team’s commitment to applying lessons from previous games to demonstrate improvement on the field. Fiji will take on France in their last pool match this Saturday at 10 am.
