Isireli Digitaki, a year nine student from Nabua Secondary School, is thankful for the experience he gained at the Fiji Golf Open. He participated in the junior category of the tournament held at the Fiji Golf Club in Vatuwaqa last Saturday.
“This was my first time taking part in the Fiji Golf Open, and I’m pleased with my scores,” Digitaki stated. However, he admitted that the pressure affected him, leading to some poor swings that disrupted his game.
Digitaki expressed his happiness at playing alongside his two uncles and older siblings during the tournament. The family won several prizes, including electrical appliances. “We can’t afford some of these items, but winning them for free fills us with pride,” he remarked.
He also shared the challenges he faced, mentioning that carrying his golf bag during play caused fatigue. “I need to work on managing my pressure to enhance my performance in the next tournament,” said Digitaki. He thanked God for giving him the strength to endure the three-day competition.
Digitaki recognized Complete Insurance Services for covering his golf membership fees, stating, “Without their sponsorship, participating in the tournament wouldn’t have been possible.” He also expressed gratitude towards Arvin Lal and Taitusi Tuivuci for their support of junior players like himself in the tournament. Additionally, he thanked the Fiji Professional Golfers Association (PGA) for sponsoring free entry for ten junior players, acknowledging that many juniors cannot afford the entry fees.
Finally, he expressed appreciation for his family and teachers for their support and guidance throughout the tournament.
