Isireli Digitaki, a year nine student from Nabua Secondary School, expressed his gratitude for the experience gained at the Fiji Golf Open. The young golfer participated in the junior category tournament held at the Fiji Golf Club in Vatuwaqa last Saturday.
“This is my first time taking part in the Fiji Golf Open, and I am pleased with my scores,” Digitaki shared. However, he noted that the pressure affected him, leading to several poor swings that disrupted his game.
Digitaki was excited to compete alongside his two uncles and older siblings who participated in the tournament and were fortunate enough to win prizes, including electrical appliances. “We can’t afford some of these items, so winning them for free makes us really proud,” he remarked.
He discussed the physical challenges he faced, including difficulty lifting his golf bag, which caused him fatigue. “I need to work on managing the pressure to enhance my performance in the next tournament,” he acknowledged. He expressed his gratitude to God for the strength to endure the three-day event.
Digitaki also thanked Complete Insurance Services for covering his golf membership, stating, “Without their sponsorship, I wouldn’t have been able to participate in the tournament.” He extended his appreciation to Arvin Lal and Taitusi Tuivuci for their assistance to junior players, including himself, during the tournament.
Additionally, he expressed gratitude to the Fiji Professional Golfers Association (PGA) for sponsoring ten juniors with free entry to the tournament, highlighting that many junior players struggle to afford the entry fee.
“I want to thank my family and teachers for their continuous support and guidance, which helped me through this tournament,” he concluded.
