Isireli Digitaki, a year nine student at Nabua Secondary School, expressed his gratitude for the experience he gained while competing in the Fiji Golf Open. He participated in the junior category of the tournament held at the Fiji Golf Club in Vatuwaqa last Saturday.
“This is my first time in the Fiji Golf Open, and I’m pleased with my scores,” Digitaki shared. He acknowledged feeling some pressure during the event, which resulted in a few poor swings that affected his performance.
Digitaki was excited to play alongside his two uncles and older siblings during the tournament, where they won prizes, including electrical appliances. “We can’t afford some of these items, but winning them makes us very proud,” he said.
He mentioned the difficulty he faced managing his golf bag during the game, which contributed to his fatigue. “I need to work on controlling the pressure so I can improve for the next tournament,” he noted. He also expressed his gratitude, saying, “I want to thank God for giving me the strength to participate in this three-day tournament.”
The young golfer acknowledged Complete Insurance Services for covering his golf membership fees. “Without their sponsorship, I wouldn’t have been able to play in the tournament,” he stated. He also extended his thanks to Arvin Lal and Taitusi Tuivuci for their support in assisting him and other juniors during the event.
Digitaki appreciated the Fiji Professional Golfers Association (PGA) for sponsoring ten juniors, allowing them free entry into the tournament. “Most of us cannot afford the entry fees, so this support is crucial,” he said.
Lastly, he expressed gratitude to his family and teachers for their unwavering support and guidance that helped him navigate the tournament successfully.
