Young Golfer’s First Tournament: A Journey of Gratitude and Growth

Isireli Digitaki, a year nine student from Nabua Secondary School, expressed his gratitude for participating in the Fiji Golf Open. He took part in the junior category at the Fiji Golf Club in Vatuwaqa last Saturday.

“This was my first experience at the Fiji Golf Open, and I’m pleased with my scores,” he stated. However, he noted that he struggled with the pressure, which led to some poor swings that affected his game.

Digitaki was excited to compete alongside his two uncles and older siblings, who also participated in the tournament, winning prizes, including electrical appliances. “We can’t afford some of these items, but winning them for free makes us very proud.”

He shared that carrying his golf bag during the tournament was challenging and caused fatigue. “I need to learn to manage the pressure better to improve my performance in future tournaments,” he added. He also expressed his gratitude to God for giving him the strength to complete the three-day event.

He thanked Complete Insurance Services for covering his golf membership fees, stating, “Without their sponsorship, I wouldn’t have been able to play.” Additionally, he appreciated the support from Arvin Lal and Taitusi Tuivuci, who helped him and other juniors participate in the tournament.

Digitaki also acknowledged the Fiji Professional Golfers Association (PGA) for sponsoring ten juniors for free entry into the tournament, as many young players cannot afford the entry fees. “I’m thankful to my family and teachers for their unwavering support and advice, which helped me through this tournament.”
