Young Golfer’s First Tournament: A Journey of Challenges and Triumphs

Year nine student Isireli Digitaki is thankful for the opportunity he had at the Fiji Golf Open. The Nabua Secondary School student took part in the junior category tournament at the Fiji Golf Club in Vatuwaqa last Saturday.

“It’s my first time participating in the Fiji Golf Open and I’m pleased with my scores,” he remarked. “The pressure got to me at times, causing a few bad swings that affected my performance.”

Digitaki expressed his joy at competing alongside his two uncles and older siblings during the tournament. They were rewarded with prizes, including electrical appliances.

“We can’t afford some of these items, but winning them for free makes us very proud,” he added.

He also mentioned the difficulty he faced while carrying his golf bag, noting it contributed to his fatigue.

“I need to work on managing the pressure to enhance my performance in the next tournament,” Digitaki said. “I am grateful to God for giving me the strength to endure this three-day event.”

He acknowledged Complete Insurance Services for covering his golf membership fee. “Without their sponsorship, I wouldn’t have had the chance to compete in the tournament.”

Digitaki also expressed appreciation for Arvin Lal and Taitusi Tuivuci for their support of other juniors participating in the competition. He thanked the Fiji Professional Golfers Association (PGA) for sponsoring ten juniors with free entry into the tournament.

“Most of us juniors cannot afford the entry fee,” he remarked. “I am also thankful to my family and teachers for their support and guidance, which helped me through this tournament.”
