Young Golfer’s Big Break: Gratitude and Challenges at Fiji Golf Open

Isireli Digitaki, a Year Nine student from Nabua Secondary School, expressed his gratitude for the experience gained at the Fiji Golf Open. He participated in the junior category at the Fiji Golf Club in Vatuwaqa last Saturday.

“This was my first time participating in the Fiji Golf Open, and I’m happy with my scores,” Digitaki stated. He acknowledged feeling pressure during the competition, which resulted in several poor swings that affected his game.

Digitaki was particularly pleased to play alongside his two uncles and older siblings at the event, where they were able to win prizes, including electrical appliances. “We can’t afford some of these items, but winning them for free makes us really proud,” he said.

He noted the physical challenge of carrying his golf bag, which led to fatigue. “I need to work on controlling the pressure to improve my performance in the next tournament,” he added. Digitaki expressed his gratitude to God for providing him with the strength to endure the three-day event.

He also credited Complete Insurance Services for covering his golf membership fees, stating, “Without their sponsorship, I wouldn’t have been able to play in the tournament.” Additionally, he thanked Arvin Lal and Taitusi Tuivuci for their assistance to junior players like him and acknowledged the Fiji Professional Golfers Association (PGA) for sponsoring ten juniors for free tournament entry.

“Most of us juniors can’t afford the entry fee to play in the tournament,” Digitaki explained. He concluded by thanking his family and teachers for their support and guidance throughout the competition.
