Young Golfer Overcomes Challenges at Fiji Golf Open

Isireli Digitaki, a year nine student from Nabua Secondary School, expressed gratitude for the valuable experience he gained at the Fiji Golf Open. He competed in the junior category at the Fiji Golf Club in Vatuwaqa last Saturday.

“This was my first time participating in the Fiji Golf Open, and I am pleased with my scores,” Digitaki shared. He admitted that the pressure affected his performance, leading to several poor swings that disrupted his game.

Digitaki was particularly happy to compete alongside his two uncles and older siblings during the tournament, where they won various prizes, including electrical appliances. “We can’t afford some of these items, but winning them for free makes us very proud,” he stated.

He noted the challenge of managing his golf bag’s weight, which contributed to his fatigue during play. “I need to focus on controlling my nerves to enhance my performance in future tournaments,” he added. Digitaki thanked God for giving him the strength to persevere throughout the three-day event.

He acknowledged Complete Insurance Services for funding his golf membership, emphasizing, “Without their support, I would not have been able to participate in the tournament.” He also expressed gratitude to Arvin Lal and Taitusi Tuivuci for their assistance to him and other junior players competing in the tournament.

Additionally, he thanked the Fiji Professional Golfers Association (PGA) for sponsoring ten junior players with free tournament entry, noting that many juniors struggle to afford the entry fees. “I am grateful to my family and teachers for their encouragement and guidance, which helped me navigate this tournament,” he concluded.
