Yeshnil Karan Shines in Namosi Challenge Despite Team’s Setback

Fiji’s renowned long-distance runner, Yeshnil Karan, along with his team, secured second place in the Namosi Challenge, dubbed “Fiji’s Toughest Race,” which took place in the Namosi highlands on Saturday. Karan performed exceptionally in the 10km team race, finishing first for his team, but they ultimately placed second overall due to some of his teammates arriving late.

This competition marked Karan’s debut in the Namosi marathon, and he expressed his enthusiasm for participating alongside his coach, Isireli Naikelekelevesi. Despite not clinching the top spot, Karan found the experience thrilling, appreciating the unique challenges posed by the mountainous terrain, even in rainy weather.

“This is my first-ever Namosi marathon in the 10km team race, and it was great to see my coach also participating,” Karan stated. “I was able to finish first for my team, but even though we came second overall, it was a fantastic race.”

He described the experience as amazing, highlighting how the mountains and hills created a distinct atmosphere while running, and noted the beauty of the scenery despite the rainfall. Reflecting on the competitive challenges, Karan acknowledged the toughness of the hilly course but took pride in being the top finisher for his team.

Karan expressed his gratitude to the event organizers, Suva Marathon, and sponsors for their support, as well as thanking his coach and family for their encouragement. Taking a break from his regular training schedule, he viewed the Namosi Challenge as a chance to test his limits and enjoy himself. He appreciated the participation turnout and relished the opportunity to experience the stunning highland scenery while pushing his own boundaries.
