World Bank’s Commitment to Fiji’s Development Unveiled at Key Meeting

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Professor Biman Prasad met with World Bank Vice President for the East Asia and Pacific region, Manuella Ferro, during the 2024 IMF/World Bank Group Annual Meetings. Their discussions centered on significant government priorities outlined in the National Development Plan, which include enhancing health service delivery, promoting quality education, developing climate-resilient infrastructure, and raising the overall standard of living.

Vice President Ferro expressed the Bank’s commitment to collaborating with the Government of Australia and the Asian Development Bank to advance the redevelopment of the CWM Hospital. Efforts will also focus on addressing the ongoing public health emergency by increasing investments in primary healthcare facilities throughout the country and strengthening national awareness and response initiatives.

Ferro praised Fiji for its progressive approach and reaffirmed the World Bank’s ongoing support through technical assistance, financing, and capacity-building programs targeted at these priorities. She assured Professor Prasad of the Bank’s continued backing for the National Development Plan and its partnership in fostering Fiji’s development.
