World Bank Partners with Fiji: A Vision for Healthcare and Infrastructure

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Professor Biman Prasad held a meeting today with World Bank Vice President for the East Asia and Pacific region, Manuella Ferro, during the 2024 IMF/World Bank Group Annual Meetings.

The discussions primarily addressed significant government priorities outlined in the National Development Plan, which includes enhancing health service delivery, promoting quality education, constructing climate-resilient infrastructure, and improving the overall standard of living.

Vice President Ferro confirmed the Bank’s collaboration with the Australian Government and the Asian Development Bank to advance the redevelopment of the CWM Hospital.

Additionally, there will be an emphasis on tackling the current public health emergency with increased investments in primary health care facilities across the nation, along with initiatives for nationwide awareness and response.

Ferro praised Fiji’s proactive approach and reiterated the World Bank’s ongoing support through technical assistance, financing, and capacity-building efforts directed at meeting these priorities.

She assured Professor Prasad of the Bank’s commitment to the National Development Plan and its sustained partnership in Fiji’s development.
