World Bank Boosts Fiji’s National Development Plans

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Professor Biman Prasad met today with World Bank Vice President for the East Asia and Pacific region, Manuella Ferro, during the 2024 IMF/World Bank Group Annual Meetings.

Their discussions centered on essential government priorities outlined in the National Development Plan. These included improving health service delivery, enhancing education quality, developing climate-resilient infrastructure, and raising the overall standard of living.

Vice President Ferro expressed the World Bank’s commitment to collaborating with the Australian government and the Asian Development Bank to advance the redevelopment of the CWM Hospital.

The conversation also highlighted the need to address the ongoing public health emergency by increasing investments in primary health care facilities and promoting nationwide awareness and response initiatives.

Ferro praised Fiji for its proactive approach and reaffirmed the World Bank’s ongoing support through technical assistance, financing, and capacity-building efforts aimed at addressing these priorities. She assured Professor Prasad of the Bank’s dedication to the National Development Plan and its partnership in Fiji’s development journey.
