World Bank Backs Fiji’s Bold Development Plans

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Professor Biman Prasad held a meeting today with Manuella Ferro, Vice President of the World Bank for the East Asia and Pacific region, on the sidelines of the 2024 IMF/World Bank Group Annual Meetings.

Their conversation centered on vital government objectives highlighted in the National Development Plan, which includes enhancing health service delivery, promoting quality education, constructing climate-resilient infrastructure, and elevating the overall living standards of citizens.

VP Ferro expressed the World Bank’s commitment to collaborating with the Australian Government and the Asian Development Bank to advance the redevelopment of the CWM Hospital.

Additionally, there will be a strong emphasis on tackling the ongoing public health emergency through increased investments in primary healthcare facilities nationwide and promoting awareness and response initiatives.

VP Ferro praised Fiji for its proactive approach and reaffirmed the World Bank’s unwavering support through technical assistance, financing, and capacity-building efforts to meet these objectives. She also assured Professor Prasad of the Bank’s commitment to supporting the National Development Plan and maintaining a strong partnership for Fiji’s development.
