World Bank Backs Fiji’s Ambitious Development Vision

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Professor Biman Prasad held a meeting today with Manuella Ferro, the World Bank Vice President for East Asia and the Pacific, during the 2024 IMF/World Bank Group Annual Meetings.

The conversation centered on significant government priorities as outlined in the National Development Plan, which includes enhancing health service delivery, promoting quality education, constructing climate-resilient infrastructure, and improving living standards overall.

VP Ferro expressed the World Bank’s commitment to collaborating with the Government of Australia and the Asian Development Bank to advance the redevelopment of the CWM Hospital.

There will also be a strong focus on tackling the current public health emergency through increased investment in primary health care facilities throughout the country, as well as efforts for nationwide awareness and response.

Ferro praised Fiji for its innovative approach and reaffirmed the World Bank’s ongoing support through technical assistance, financing, and capacity-building initiatives aimed at achieving these goals. She assured Professor Prasad of the Bank’s backing for the National Development Plan and its dedication to continuing the partnership for Fiji’s development.
