The Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre (FWCC) has expressed concern over the rising number of women engaging in online disputes and expressing animosity towards one another on social media. Lavenia Tuitabu, a counsellor advocate with FWCC, questioned during a live session on the organization’s social media platform about who instigates the conflicts and hurt among women.
According to Ms. Tuitabu, these tensions often arise when a woman finds out that her partner is involved with another female. This situation typically leads to confrontations between the two women, who subsequently air their grievances and animosity online.
Ms. Tuitabu noted that while these women may experience emotional pain, they often choose to defend their partners and direct their anger towards the other woman. “During these conflicts, women tend to overlook the involvement of their male partners, instead launching personal attacks against each other,” she explained.
She highlighted that, in many cases, the man remains largely unaffected by the turmoil he has caused, often manipulating both women. “When these disputes escalate, it raises the question of who is truly to blame—the man at the center of it all,” she stated.
Ms. Tuitabu added that it is disheartening to witness the fallout, where women end up sharing photos of each other that invite a barrage of negative comments and hostility online.
