The Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre has expressed concern over the increasing instances of women engaging in conflicts and expressing negativity towards one another on social media. Lavenia Tuitabu, a counsellor advocate for FWCC, raised the question during a live video on the organization’s social media page, asking who is to blame for the rivalry and pain experienced by women fighting amongst themselves.
According to Ms. Tuitabu, the underlying issue often stems from a partner’s involvement with another woman while still in a relationship. This leads to confrontations between women from opposing sides, who then resort to airing their grievances on social media platforms.
She emphasized that despite their hurt, women tend to defend their partners while directing hostility towards the other women involved. “During these disputes, women often neglect the men in their lives and instead attack each other with hurtful remarks,” she stated.
Furthermore, Ms. Tuitabu pointed out that the men in question often remain unaffected and indifferent to the emotional turmoil experienced by both women, suggesting that they manipulate the situation. She remarked that when such conflicts arise, it prompts a reflection on who is truly responsible, which she identifies as the man involved.
“It is painful to consider. Ultimately, this leads to the sharing of images of the women, who then face a barrage of negative comments,” she concluded.
