Westpac Launches Pioneering Online Financial Training for Fijians!

Westpac has introduced online financial literacy training for Fijians, allowing them to participate from home or at their workplace. This initiative is regarded as a pioneering effort in Fiji’s market, transitioning from previous face-to-face sessions with community groups, clients, and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME).

Shane Smith, Chief Executive of Westpac Fiji, emphasized that the bank is leveraging social media to engage more Fijians, encouraging them to improve their skills in essential areas such as budgeting, planning, saving, and overall financial management throughout various life stages.

“We are proud to be among the first banks in Fiji to offer virtual training sessions on financial literacy and invite interested individuals to join these free courses,” Mr. Smith stated. Upon completing the course, participants receive a certificate as well as resource materials to support their financial journey.

Prior to launching the program publicly, Westpac conducted an internal virtual session for its staff, which saw a promising turnout of over 50 employees. From October 2023 to July 2024, Westpac has successfully delivered free financial literacy training to nearly 6,000 Fijians. Participants can select from two training options: Financial First Steps for Families or Business Basics.

This initiative showcases Westpac’s dedication to promoting sustainable business practices and economic growth in Fiji.
